Biography
Bob
(Robert) Nechin was born in 1948 in New York and raised
in West Virginia. An honors graduate of the US Military
Academy at West Point, he studied Russian literature
at Stanford University and became an activist against
the war in Vietnam. He left the army, lived on communes,
worked on boats on the Ohio River, and eventually studied
stained glass and began to create artistic works in
that medium. In 1976 he moved to Kibbutz Na'an in Israel,
and then to the Ein Hod Artists Village, where he studied
art, writes fiction and continues with his career in
stained glass. Nechin has a wife and three children.
"My
works of stained glass are artistic statements, expressions
in glass and light of a particular view of the world
around me. The influence of many of the major movements
of modern art are evident in my works. This is so because
I feel that modern art has given expression to a great
feeling of freedom, one that grants room to the human
soul, and I want this to be expressed in my work also.
My aim is to create works that provide both a sense
of liberation and a feeling of harmony with the natural
world in which we live."

"A resolute individualist, Nechin regards his work
as an outlet for his own life philosophies and inner-visions.
His recent free-standing sculptures, which include elements
of hand-carved wood, are a striking testimony to that
purpose."
Peter McGraine, GLASS ART MAGAZINE
